Founded in 2002 by Dustin Beatty, Anthem focused on fashion, music, film, art and design. With Issue 36, Forest established a complete overhaul of the magazine’s identity and art direction, and served as Art Director for the duration of the magazine’s run. We drew inspiration from Herb Lubalin’s work on Avant Garde, then-current Scandinavian and European editorial design, and the imaginative color and forms of Paul Rand.

For each issue we chose a new primary palette and applied those colors to the logo and other features throughout the issue. Anthem had been marked by powerful (and exclusive) photography, and we incorporated complimentary illustration elements to provide a bit of contrast, a little frisson in the margins.
